Pedestrian hit by student driving on campus
On Wednesday, Feb. 5, a man was struck by a vehicle driven by a female on the campus of Delta College, incurring only minor injuries, according to Steve Witzke, Director of Public Safety at Delta. The man was a piano tuner, here to work on the instruments on campus. Local authorities were alerted, as well as Delta’s Public Safety, and an ambulance was dispatched from McLaren in Bay City. The man who was struck complained of pain in his right knee, but refused medical treatment, insisting he was fine. The driver of the vehicle was a Delta student, she received attention from the paramedics because she was emotionally distraught. After evaluating her, the medical professionals deemed her fit to drive. According to Witzke, witnesses reported that the piano tuner ran across the road, giving the driver minimal reaction time. The piano tuner was apologetic and admitted fault in the incident, Witzke said. Witzke said he did not believe that slippery conditions played a part in the incident. The incident is currently under investigation.
