Meet the new members of the Delta Senate
Delta students had the chance to vote for candidates running for the position of student senator, but with a 10-man increase since last semesters senate running, only 86 students voted for the spring semester elections of Delta College. However, the new senators are prepared to let the students know they are not alone.
The three students senators are Jordan Drake, Veronica Martin and Seth McDow, with both Monica Feltson and Candice Schatz to represent the Senate as alternates.
Jordan Drake, 19, is from Saginaw and is studying Information Assurance. Drake also works at the Teaching/Learning Center as a tutor. He has been a student senator for the past year and wants to make the students of Delta College aware of not only the programs they can get involved with, but also that the student senate exists.
“The students of Delta should know that there’s a senate to represent them,” Drake said. “They need to know that their concerns are heard. I plan to be a more active in seeking out the opinion of students and their concerns about policies, proceedings, and the senate as a whole.”
Veronica Martin is from Midland, MI and is studying Pre-History. Martin was also a senator during the previous fall and winter semesters, and currently works at the Red Brix Café on campus.
She explained in her application that leadership is one of the key reasons that she thinks that she is right for the student senator.
“I should be elected to represent Delta College students because I’m a good leader with a friendly and fun personality,” Martin said. “During my life, I’ve had a variety of leadership roles ranging from leading a small group of children to organizing hundreds of people. I believe it is my job as a leader to listen and attempt to fix any concerns people bring to me.”
Lastly, Seth McDow, 18, is from Saginaw, MI and is also studying Information Assurance. He currently works at Dow Chemical in cyber security.
McDow explained how becoming a student senator was something he wanted to do solely because he believes that he can make a difference in the Delta community.
“I want to implement change and give the students an awareness to programs and activities that Delta has to offer, from one student to another,” McDow explained. “My main goal as student senator is to inspire. Delta College needs a leader who understands and has compassion for each individual student.”
