Kickboxing classes focus on fitness at Delta
Students who enjoy kickboxing, getting a workout, or just want the health benefits of kickboxing may be interested in one of five of Delta’s kick boxing classes.
The class focuses on the fitness aspects of kickboxing. There are five sections offered each semester for students of any fitness or knowledge level. Students who wish to take one of these classes should register as soon as they can, as the classes fill quickly.
“I’d recommend taking it,” said Marie Escamilla, 20, a holistic nutrition major from Bay City. “It’s a good exercise.”
The class starts with 15-20 minutes of cardio before the practicing what they know and learning new moves.
“It’s good cardio,” said Steve Baase, 25, a welding engineering major from Saginaw.
The class ends with strength exercises and stretching. The class has some book work as well.
“It’s good, because it’s not the same every day,” said Brittany Milkowski, 21, a dental assisting major from Pinconning.
Students work at their comfort level.
“It’s a good workout and it’s fun,” said Sage Alexander, 18, undecided from Auburn. “You learn self defence.”
The class listens to music while they work out. Kickboxing professor Kara Jimenez says that she plays rock music with cds that are made to listen to while kickboxing.
Jimenez said that the classes are important, because that some students get more interested in fitness or wish to continue with kickboxing.
“It’s life changing for some students,” said Jimenez. “These are the classes that fill fast.”
