Women beat Wayne

Delta bested Wayne County with a final score of 87-73 on Jan. 15. The Pioneers had a rocky start but took control of the game part way through the first period.

“Wayne is a very athletic team and they have very strong posts.” Coach Kelly Miller said, “We got pushed underneath the basket and got out rebounded on the offensive boards. I think this is one of our better games going against the zone. I was very proud of defense and I thought we did a nice job causing a lot of turnovers.”

Freshman guard Dy’Mond Perry lead the way with 18 points, going 4/8 from three point range., and three steals. Sixth man, Champagne Arthur, despite taking four shots, provided clutch free throw shooting, 11/14 FT’s, giving her 16 points overall to go along with five assists.

Also scoring in double figures for Delta were sophomore forward Taylor Mantyla with 15 points and freshman guards Kennedy James and Mercedez Willis each had 12.
